Southern African Journal of HIV Medicine

The Southern African Journal of HIV Medicine (SAJHIVMED) is focused on HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention and related topics relevant to clinical and public health practice. The purpose of the journal is to disseminate original research results and to support high-level learning related to HIV Medicine. It publishes original research articles, editorials, case reports/case series, reviews of state-of-the-art clinical practice, and correspondence.

The SAJHIVMED editor, Dr David Spencer,
graduated from UCT in 1974. He has trained in the UK, USA and Canada, and has spent the better part of the last 45 years as an ID physician, with a focus on HIV, in Johannesburg. Dave is well-known as a teacher and mentor within both the private and the public academic sectors; rural, peri-urban and urban settings, and has experience working in Africa more broadly. Dave has taken on the role of chief-editor of the SAJHIVMED, to which he brings his teaching hat thereby welcoming post-graduate medical student research, his desire for academic excellence thereby ensuring sufficient academic rigour to meet the PubMed Central® accreditation requirement, and his desire to make a lasting impact by cultivating local research that reflects the South and Southern African nature of the HIV epidemic.
