It is an exciting time in the world of HIV. As this edition is going to print, the finalisation of South Africa’s National Strategic Plan is underway, with lots of proposed ‘game changers’ for HIV care.
The Society is offering a limited number of bursaries to its nurse and midwife members to attend the 5th Annual Workshop on Advanced Clinical Care, scheduled for 6-7 October in Durban.

The Society has elected an interim board as a mechanism to deal with the requirements of the new Companies Act.
As noted in the October edition of Transcript and the September issue of the Southern African Journal of HIV Medicine, the Society has implemented a new policy on branch meeting CPD points.
The Southern African HIV Clinicians Society’s 2010 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place at the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa located at the Glenhove Conference Centre, 52 Glenhove Road, Houghton, Johannesburg on Thursday, 25 November 2010 at 18h00 -19h00.
The South African HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) Campaign has begun! The pillar of the HCT Campaign is to test 15,000,000 people for HIV between now and the end of June 2011, to ensure that all South Africans know their HIV status.
The Society is very pleased to welcome its newest member of staff, Nelouise Geyer. Ms Geyer joined the Society in November as editor of a new magazine for nurses working in HIV.
The Society welcomes Laurie Schowalter and Kerry Solan. Laurie joined the Society in July as the Technical Advisor for Policy and Implementation. She has a Masters degree in Public Health and will be working on policy and advocacy issues.
We are all deeply shocked by the untimely death of Dr Steve Andrews. Steve passed away in his sleep on Friday night at the age of 39. He is survived by his wife Lyndall and daughter Sarah.
The Society bids farewell to Natalie Martyn, who will be leaving our permanent employment at the end of April.

Welcome to the first 2008 edition of Transcript. The Southern African HIV Clinician Society has undergone some significant changes with regard to its staff since the last edition. We bid farewell to Samantha Klusener Bezuidenhout and Venie Pillay, who both resigned at the end of 2007.
